CARBCOMN Marks Project Midpoint with Consortium Meeting in Zurich

The consortium gathered at EMPA and ETH Zürich on 22–23 September 2026 to review two years of progress and define priorities for the next phase of research into decarbonised and deconstructable concrete structures.

The CARBCOMN consortium held its fifth project meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, on 22–23 September 2026, marking the successful completion of Year 2 and the halfway point of its four-year journey towards more sustainable construction.

Hosted by EMPA and ETH Zürich, the meeting brought together partners to review technical progress across key areas, including carbon-negative concrete mixes, structural block systems, digital design-to-fabrication processes, and circular construction protocols.

Participants also visited EMPA’s innovative NEST building and laboratory facilities, followed by a tour of ETH Zürich’s laboratories.

Looking ahead to Year 3, discussions focused on refining testing frameworks and planning key dissemination and exploitation activities.

CARBCOMN warmly thanks EMPA, ETH Zürich, and all consortium partners for their continued collaboration and commitment to sustainable construction.
