The CARBCOMN consortium is teaming 11 partners (5 research institutes and 6 companies) from 7 different countries in Europe (Belgium, Italy, Germany, Greece, Austria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom), to foster disruptive innovation in zero-carbon concrete load-bearing structures. The consortium joins expertise on carbon curing concrete, concrete 3D printing, shape memory alloys, structural geometries that are compression dominant, digital AEC pipelines and LCA.
Project coordinator, Ghent University, founded in 1817, is one of the major universities in Belgium with more than 47,000 students and 15,000 employees. The Department of Structural Engineering and Building Materials brings expertise on concrete 3D printing and carbon curing concrete technology.

ETH Zurich is ranked as top universities and will be involved through the Block Research Group. BRG focuses on (graphical) analysis of masonry structures, computational form finding and structural design, discrete element assemblies, and fabrication and construction technologies. BRG (with ZHA and in3D) designed and built two unreinforced dry-assembled 3DCP bridges and developed a discrete unreinforced slab system. BRG developed COMPAS, a computational framework for research in architecture and structure.
